Buying queen bees: a short guide

We breed our own naturally mated Buckfast, Carniolan and Italian (Finnish selection) queen bees and ship them across the European Union. All queens are mated in our own mating apiaries, health-checked and marked on request before dispatch.

Buckfast, Carniolan or Italian — which queen to choose?

Buckfast queens are prized for gentleness, low swarming and strong honey yields — a reliable all-round choice. Carniolan (Carnica) queensbuild up fast in spring and overwinter economically, ideal for cooler climates. Italian (Ligustica) queens are prolific layers that keep large, productive colonies through a long season.

How to introduce a mated queen

Remove the old queen first and leave the colony queenless for a few hours. Place the cage between two brood frames, candy-side up, and let the bees release the queen over 2–3 days. Avoid opening the hive for a week so the colony accepts her, then confirm she is laying before adding supers.

Shipping queen bees across the EU

Queens travel in ventilated cages with attendant bees and are dispatched by express courier for fast, safe delivery across the EU. Order online and you will receive a proforma invoice by email; queens ship in season according to your requested week.
