A refractometer — every beekeeper needs one

A honey refractometer shows the moisture content in seconds: above 18–19% the honey needs drying, or it may ferment. A few drops are enough to check whether the honey is ripe for harvest. Electronic scales earn their place at bottling — accurate jar weights are mandatory for labelled retail honey.
