Varroa — the honey bee's number one enemy
The Varroa destructor mite is today's greatest threat to bee colonies: left untreated, a colony weakens and dies within 1–2 seasons. Effective varroa control rests on three steps: monitor the mite load regularly (see our monitoring tools), treat at the right time — usually after the last honey harvest and again in the broodless winter period — and rotate active substances so the mites never build resistance.
Which varroa treatment to choose?
Varroa strips with an active substance are the simplest in-season treatment. Oxalic acid (dribbling or vaporization) works best in the broodless period, while formic acid also reaches mites under the brood cappings. Vaporizers treat colonies quickly and evenly. All products here are registered treatments, safe for the bees when used as directed.
